The aim of the Scandinavian Virtual Union Catalogue (SVUC) is to make the Nordic physical Union Catalogues available as a single unified service in order to enable efficient information retrieval and copy cataloguing.
The SVUC started as a development project that lasted from 1 Dec 1999 to 31 Dec 2003. As of 2004 the SVUC was established as a regular service for Nordic libraries and their users. The agreement is effective until the partners agree to terminate it.
The national consortia maintaining each of these databases, the consortium member libraries and their parent organisations have the right to access all the databases listed in the agreement at all their offices. The use of the databases for searching and copy cataloguing is free of charge. Not applying the charges is based on mutual access to the other consortia databases. Additional services may not be free of charge. More detailed information is available on the Info for libraries page.
The costs for the libraries outside the consortia are not defined in the agreement. To access the databases they must consult each union catalogue host separately.
The initial project stage was completed in 2004.
